Kim Porter & Diddy’s Kids: Quick Facts You Need to Know & Photos of Their Family
Kim Porter left behind a large family when she passed away at the young age of 47.
According to TMZ, Porter was found dead in her Los Angeles-area home on Thursday (Nov. 15). Although her cause of death was not immediately revealed, she was recently suffering from flu-like symptoms (and possibly pneumonia) and police received a call to her home about a patient in cardiac arrest.
Kim Porter’s untimely death has many wondering about her family—most notably her children with Hip-Hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. You can learn more about Porter’s family below:
Kim Porter and Diddy dated for 13 years and they have four children together, including a son who is not biologically Diddy’s, but was raised by the hip-hop mogul.
Known as a “ladies man,” Diddy has several baby mamas. In fact, he has a total of six children with three different women, including one child who isn’t biologically his, but was raised as his own.
Diddy and Kim Porter dated off and on for 13 years before finally calling it quits for good in 2007 after Kim found out Diddy had gotten another woman pregnant (Sarah Chapman) while she was pregnant with their twin daughters D’Lila Star and Jessie James (who were born in December 2006).
Porter gave birth to Diddy’s first child, Christian Combs, in 1998. Porter’s oldest son, Quincy Brown, was born in 1991 from her previous relationship with singer Al B. Sure (real name: Albert Brown), however, Diddy took Quincy in and raised him as his own son because Brown wasn’t around.
In fact, Quincy wrote a public letter to his biological father in 2009 and said this:
“I grew up without my father, an irreplaceable force and influence that was absent in my life. I watched other kids enjoy the embrace of theirs, and I searched for a way to reconcile the meaning of my circumstance.
“Albert Brown, also known as ‘Al B Sure!’ is my biological father, but Sean Combs, also known as ‘Diddy’ has been a father figure in my life for as long as I can remember. Sean Combs is the person whom I look up to and appreciate as a father. He is the one who [helped] mold me into the person I am today and [I] will always try to live up to his expectations. He has always been supportive of me and I will forever love and respect him.
“As far as my biological father goes, the ‘spitting image’ is all I have taken from him. Throughout my life, I’ve always wondered about him; Where [was he]? What was he doing? And most importantly, was he even thinking about me? The absence of my father has given me a better understanding of what type of man I am going to be. I am grateful for my mom’s love, support, guidance, and for her strength.”
Christian Combs is a model and a rapper just like his mother and father.
Christian Combs is following in the footsteps of both mom and dad, as he is a model (like his mother) and a rapper (like his father).
Combs, who is signed with IMG models, has shot modeling campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and recently appeared in Tommy Hilfiger’s spring 2018 Tommy Jeans campaign. Combs also models for his father’s fashion line Sean John.
“I feel blessed to be a part of it,” he told Essence about modeling for his dad’s fashion brand. “To see it come from when I was a baby to where it is now, I’ve seen my dad put in so much work and it’s just great to be a part of this history. When I was younger, I didn’t take it as serious because it was just something that was a part of my life. I didn’t know how great it was to have a clothing line like this. But now, to look back on it and to see all the campaigns I used to do and the history that I was a part of… it’s super dope.”
In addition to his modeling career, Combs has also released music via his famous father’s record label, Bad Boy Records. Under the rap name “King Combs,” he released his first official single “Love You Better” featuring Chris Brown in February 2018. The song samples Case’s “Touch Me, Tease Me” and the video is a recreation of The Notorious B.I.G.’s “One More Chance” video.
When asked about balancing his modeling and rapping careers, Combs told Billboard: “I’m in the studio all the time and you know, the modeling stuff is like having one car you go and drive once in awhile, but it’s not like an everyday thing for me right now. Music is really an everyday thing.”
Kim and Diddy’s twin daughters Jessie James and D’Lilah are child models.
Kim and Diddy’s 12-year-old twin daughters Jessie James and D’Lila began their modeling careers at a very young age. The pair landed their first print ad campaign in 2014 as spokesmodels for RUUM American Kids Wear.
In 2016, Jessie James and D’Lila posed for the cover of Halycon Kids. Porter posted a photo of the twins on Instagram with the caption: “JESSIE and D’LILA cover girls for @halcyon.kids !! They get it from they MAMA !!!”
Porter often posted about her twin girls on Instagram. In September, she shared a photo of them with the McClure Twins and wrote in the caption: “Identical Twin’s .. I just love watching the Bond they Share … they just get each other , it’s a TWIN -ting @mccluretwins”
A few days later, she posted a photo of the twins on their first day of middle school. “And just like that, my y lil ladies Jessie and D’Lila are off to Middle School,” she wrote.
She also posted a photo of the girls (along with their sister, Diddy’s other daughter Chance Combs with Sarah Chapman) posing backstage with Beyoncé at her and JAY-Z’s “On The Run II” tour stop in San Diego, California. She wrote: “Who runs the WORLD @beyonce .. GIRLS !!!! Can’t tell them nothing right now !!!”
And the day after Halloween, she posted this photo of the three of them dressed up as RUN-DMC:
Kim recently lost her grandmother and said she hoped she could enjoy a long life like the older woman, who was 94 years old when she passed.
She posted a photo of herself with her daughters and her “Gram” on Instagram this past May, writing in the caption: RIP GRAM… I pray I live to be 94 yrs old what a blessing !GENERATIONS #porters We love you Knock KNOCK”
Kim Porter’s oldest son, Quincy Brown, is a man of many talents.
Kim Porter’s first-born son and eldest child, Quincy Brown, is a man of many talents—a jack of all trades, if you will.
In addition to being a model, actor and singer, Brown also runs a production company (FourXample), has a line of watches (Chalk by Quincy) and his own brand of jeans (Embellish), as well as a tech start-up company.
Brown’s acting credits include roles in the films “Dope” and “Brotherly Love,” the latter of which he starred alongside well-known actress Keke Palmer.
He also appears on the hit FOX musical drama Star as the character Derek Jones, and he’s also had bit roles in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots.
Being the son of a model, it’s no surprise that Brown started modeling at an early age. He’s represented by the Wilhelmina modeling agency, and in 2014, he walked the runway for Naomi Campbell’s Ebola awareness show for New York Fashion Week.
Quincy has also released a handful of singles, including “Stay Awhile” (featuring Kendré Berry) and “Friends First” (featuring French Montana).
After Quincy’s biological father, Albert “Al B. Sure!” Brown, and his mother split, he was legally adopted by Diddy—who has been a part of Quincy’s life since he was 8 years old. Quincy’s godfather is legendary musician and producer Quincy Jones, whom he’s named after. Quincy explained his confusing family lineage in an interview with The Jasmine Brand.
“My last name is Combs, my last name is Brown – I go by Quincy,” he explained. “If I was able to take off the Brown and the Combs for my brand… I might do that, you know? But dealing with how they structure things I don’t mind the ‘Quincy Brown’ being my actor name and just the ‘Quincy’ as an artist, as a brand but either way I’m Quincy.”
Quincy’s childhood dream was to become a professional baseball player. However, he wasn’t able to play on a high school team due to his family always moving around.
“Baseball was definitely a passion of mine in high school,” he told Celebuzz in 2015. “Because of my family being who my family is, we moved a lot, which caused me to miss a lot of school during the moving process.”
Diddy had his other daughter, Chance Combs, with another woman, Sarah Chapman, while dating Kim Porter.
Speaking to Essence Magazine in 2007, Kim Porter explained how she felt when she found out Diddy had fathered a child with another woman named Sarah Chapman while they were together. The child, Chance Combs, was born just five months before Jessie James and D’Lila.
“We stand by our man, through thick and thin, through whatever. But if you feel like, ‘Maybe I am getting the short end of the stick,’ that’s when a change has to take place,” she said. “It’s not an original script. He’s not the first man who’s cheated. He’s not the first man who’s had a baby outside of his relationship. He’s not the originator of this. But at this point in my life – I have girls now – it’s a different program.”
Porter also expressed regret that she didn’t hear about Diddy’s other child directly from him.
“I would have preferred to find out from him because that’s a man,” she says. “I know it’s hard for anyone to say to their significant other, ‘I’ve gotten into some sh** and I got a baby on the way.’ But men do get caught up in things; I’m not naive to that. Still, there’s a right and a wrong way to handle it. Because, most of all, we were friends. Even if I couldn’t have understood it as a woman, I would have understood it as a friend.”
Porter said Combs did eventually tell her he had another child by another woman, but it was after their twins were born.
“He told me that he may have gotten himself into a situation and he may have fathered another child outside the relationship and I said, ‘Really? Well, I already knew. I’m glad you decided to be a man,’” she recalled. “I was like, ‘Dude, this is so wack I can’t even respect you right now.’ And for me, once the respect is gone, I’m not even listening to you.”
Kim Porter and Diddy remained friends after their split so that they could raise their children together.
Even though Kim Porter and Diddy split in 2007, the two remained close friends and co-parents. She continued to post photos of the kids with Diddy on her Instagram, and even wished her ex a happy birthday on the social media platform, writing alongside a photo of him on November 4th:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY @diddy on this day a GENIUS was born ,may you continue to be the Driving Force of ENERGY that GOD created you to be !! Thank you for giving me the best gifts of life our CHILDREN !!
She also posted a special Father’s Day message to Combs on IG: “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY @diddy thank you for being our Rock, we are all so Blessed to be a part of a FAMILY that shares so much LOVE”
Porter told Essence that despite everything they went through as a couple, her bond with the hip-hop mogul remained strong.
“You know how when two people go their separate ways, most of the time there’s animosity? It’s not like that with us,” she explained. “Sean and I have this bond, this friendship. It’s not about ‘if you’re faithful to me, if I’m being faithful to you.’ We’re friends.”
She continued: “I’m the person he can tell his inner most thoughts to and he’s that person for me. He still calls me everyday and we talk. There’s no ill feeling or ‘I can’t stand you, I hate you, don’t call.’ There’s none of that. We have three children together so that’s just not an option. We’re committed to our children even if we couldn’t commit to each other.”
